My loft – a real loft, not a so-called loft- is located in a National Monument: the former Military Hospital, within the ancient city center of Amsterdam. The rear windows do have a view on a canal.
The apt. has (very) high ceilings (up to 6 meter). It is spacious, smashing and light.
It is at walking distance from the River Amstel (4 minutes), the Hermitage Museum (6 minutes) and the City Hall and Opera (10 minutes). Tram and metro are around the corner and – of course; this is Holland- a bike is in the basement.
The 77 sq. M. (800+ square feet) apt. is fully equipped (Cable TV, Flat Screen, Hifi, dishwasher, Wifi, washing machine, no dryer though – I use the balcony :-) and is suitable for 1 person – or 2, when the bed is replaced by a Queen-size bed.
The house is beautifully furnished with 18th century French Directoire and Empire and Dutch early 20th century Art Deco furniture and everything is of the highest quality – as can be seen on the pics. More pics avaible.
Of course there are books in English.
I would like to swap for an apt. in Manhattan, pref. in a tall building, pref. Lower Manhattan. Soho, TriBeCa, Clinton, Hells Kitchen, Union Square, FiDi (I LOVE the FiDi), etc; you’ve got the picture. The more South, the better. Though I also like Midtown.
Last year, I’d spend 3 months at the Upper West Side, which is NOT my neighborhood; Still, I will consider.
No need to say Amsterdam is the perfect operating base to discover Europe. Trains to Brussels (2 hours, one way starting 27 USD), Paris (3 hours, 35 USD), London (5.5 hours, 70 USD), Berlin (6 hours, 56 USD), Mediterranean (Nice, Marseille, 8 hours, 63 USD) Vienna (11 hours, 132 USD). I think you've got the picture :-)

What started out as 'a year abroad' with our kids in 2000, turned into something very different, as we have now made Amsterdam our home. The kids are now young adults living in NYC, and since my mother is there as well... the short trips to visit are not long enough in which to do all we'd like to with the family, nor do they allow for us to travel to more family and friends across the US easily. Hence, the idea for a long-term exchange.
We have not previously exchanged apartments per se, but have on two occasions stayed in other people's homes while they were away, and can provide references from both.
We're very familiar with old properties and the eccentricities of same, and are sensitive to expensive heating costs ~

The neighbourhood where I live is multicultural and artistic with a very popular park (Westerpark, 5 minutes walking) that
has an arthouse, cafes, clubs and terraces. The apartment is also only 5 minutes by foot from the beautiful Old center (the Jordaan) and
from a brand new swimming pool. There are many dutch and oriental shops and supermarkets and a great nightshop.
You can find public transport (tram and bus) right in my street.
I have free use of high speed internet (6mbps), digital television with 90 channels (european, american, oriental) and
free use of telephone when you call within the country (i.e. international and cellphone calls not included).

Kreuzkölln is a very popular area in Berlin with vibrant nightlife close by and very
good U-bahn connections (Hermannplatz U8 and U7). Close to Mitte and Kreuzberg.
My room is 20m2 with a double mattress. Two people can fit in the room but there is also
a couch that is possible for third person to sleep on if necessary.
My flatmate is a very nice female French photographer.
And yes, the flat has a baby crib and chair. Large kitchen with sofa.
The flat we are willing to share is located in a quiet shopping street of Paris 15th arrondissement - 15 minutes walk from the Eiffel tower and 15 minutes tube from Champs-Elysée.
We have a kitchen with all required appliances, 1 bath tube, separated toilets, 1 LCD TV, DSL internet, Wii console... No free parking :(
This is a very nice swap for 2 couples (maybe with 2 kids) looking for a conviently located spot in semi-central Paris. A true picture of the real Parisian life far away from the tourist crowded area while close enough to the major must-see areas.
The apartment is located near public transport (train, tram, taxi station, bus). Supermarkets, bars, bakeries, etc. are at walking distance. There is plenty of parking space in front of the apartment building.

We don't need a lot as far as space goes, as we will be out and about visiting and sight-seeing for most of our stay. A small one or two bedroom appartment or a room with a queen-size bed would be perfect...(we're best friends and don't mind sharing a bed for our stay). We are extremely clean, tidy and respectful.
Our friends live around Amstel Station and Centraal Station, so something around Amstel/Wibautstraat or the City Centre would be preferable...
As far a cost goes we're not really sure what we would be looking at...we don't need anything luxurious...and are looking for something fairly priced. A lot of what I've seen has been priced per night or per month. Maybe we can negotiate something for our 19-20 day stay?

The home is all hardwood flooring except bathroom. Detail are obvious in the decor. Many of the items have been collected by my partner and I while traveling. I have lived on four continents and we have both traveled extensively. This "share" thing will be a first for us. But it seems to make so much sense..the idea of an unknown individual romping in your bed is disconcerting though. Before comsummating any kind of deal in this area, we would need to be assured of integrity. That may require a hefty deposit..as we would willingly offer if a venture were conceived and culminated
